SPORTING CP FANS COMPLAIN ABOUT ALBERTO AQUILANI

Many are concerned about the high wages paid to Italian Alberto Acquilani despite the few appearances and performances he offers the club.

Sporting CP acquired the player in the summer of last year but injuries ensured the player only appeared 19 times in the Ligue for the club.

The very versatile player who plays in the central, goes defensive and can be played in attacking midfield role started his career with AS Roma breaking through the youth team. All his career the consistent injuries have been a bane. Due to the injuries he was sold to England where he joined Liverpool in the summer of 2009.

Acauilani never settled at the Merseyside, he was eventually sent on loan to Italian giants Juventus, returned then on another loan to AC Milan in 2011. Liverpool eventually sold him to Fiorentina in 2012 and he looked set to be the next purple star.

He combined well with David Pizarro and Borja Valero playing in various positions. The injuries and age started catching up on him and his woes continued. His wages were also too much for the club especially for a player who was not getting regular first team action.

He eventually joined Sporting CP last summer but missed a lot of games as he was set aside on the bench. There were a lot of MLS side begging for his signature but Sporting convinced him to join them. Sporting finshed second behind Benfica last season but are repositioning to win the league and advance in Europe, hence the complains the fans are having with the Italian and the huge wages he commands. His performance they want to improve but the there is already a limit for the player who is 31 years old already. As Sporting prepares for the coming season, Aquilani would have to improve to remain at the club.
