Fiorentina plan Alberto Aquilani pay cut

Italian club Fiorentina are planning contract talks with Italian international midfielder Alberto Aquilani as soon as he returns to the country after his duties with the Italian national team from the World Cup in Brazil.

The Viola is expected to sit down for contract talks with several of their players but the position with the Italian international is very precarious. They have already had positive contract talks regarding a straight forward extension with the likes of Borja Valero as well as Gonzalo Rodriguez and are also expected to go straight into negotiations with Peruvian midfielder David Pizzarro, whom they are very optimistic about holding on to.

Neto, the goalkeeper is also expected to sign a new two year extension with the club with the option of another year which will see his annual income rise significantly from the current € 600,000 per year. However, according to a popular Italian media publication, Fiorentina and Alberto Aquilani both want to continue their association but the Viola want the player to reduce the player’s wages significantly from the current € 1.7 million per year, something the former AS Roma man is not willing to accept.

And if there is indeed a breakdown in negotiations between the player and the club, there are several clubs that could be after the former Liverpool midfielder with the likes of Genoa, Torino as well as Inter Milan keeping a close watch on the developments.

Alberto Aquilani became the most expensive Italian to move to English football when Liverpool paid a massive fee of £ 20 million to AS Roma for his services. But he failed to find his feet at Anfield and was loaned out to AC Milan before being sold to Serie A rivals Fiorentina when the Red and Blacks refused to meet his buyout clause with Liverpool.

Aquilani Future Uncertain

Now that all the major leagues in Europe have concluded, some players are reaching the end of their respective contracts and this starts to create rumors on whether or not they will continue remaining in the club they are right now or be transferred somewhere else.

In some way or another this is the case with Alberto Aquilani, a 29 year old midfielder who has vast experience playing in top clubs such as Juventus, As.Roma and Ac.Milan. Aquilani still has 1 year remaining on his contract with Fiorentina and even though there have not been talks concerning an extension with the Italian club, his agent is confident that he will remain wearing the Fiorentina the years to come.

“No. There are no new developments on Aquilani’s renewal with Fiorentina. In football there is this attitude to want to renew contracts with great haste but for the moment, there is no rush for my client.

“The player is relaxed, his contract with Fiorentina expires in June 2015, so there will be all the time needed to be able to talk about an eventual renewal. He is happy in Florence. He has no intention of finding any other destination in this transfer market. He is happy with Fiorentina. He is ready to discuss his future, and above all else he is ready to discuss the lengthening of his contract.” Franco Zavaglia said.

A few years ago when Aquilani was a player of Liverpool, his agent stated that he would remain with the Premier League for at least another season but it was later announced that the Italian midfielder was going to be transferred to Fiorentina and rumors are starting to build up once more as there are reports linking Aquilani with a move away from Fiorentina.
