Alberto Aquilani criticizes Sampdoria Pitch

Former Liverpool midfielder Alberto Aquilani has branded the pitch at Sampdoria as one of the worst he has ever played on.

The former Italian international recently took to the field with his Fiorentina teammates for the match against Sampdoria. Fiorentina are once again having top three ambitions this season. They have done well under Vincenzo Montella and are currently in the top 10 of the table. However, their Champions League ambitions suffered a huge blow after a 3-1 defeat. The defeat means that they are in the bottom half of the table with only one win in the last five.

Aquilani has tried to shift the blame on to the pitch, which was in a very bad condition. His sentiments have also been backed by managers like Massimiliano Allegri. The Juventus boss was also equally unhappy with the state of the pitch after his team lost against Genoa a week ago. Aquilani says that the score could have been very different had Fiorentina taken advantage of the penalty, which was missed. Despite the setback, Aquilani says that he is still confident that Fiorentina will be able to improve massively once they get top players like Mario Gomez back from injury.

The future of Aquilani continues to remain under a cloud of doubt as his contract expires at the end of the campaign.“The pitch was one of the worst that I have played on.It had an influence as we could not run the ball as we would have liked to.If we had scored the penalty then the game might have been different. We might have been able to recover but at 3-1 the game was over.We are not where we want to be in Serie A but it is still early, a few good results and everything can change,” said Aquilani.
